Best portable 18 inch dishwasher for small kitchens

If you have little counter space and no room for a built-in unit, a portable 18 inch dishwasher can add dishwashing without a renovation. These machines are built for small kitchens, apartments and rentals, and several roll on wheels so you can move them to the sink or store them out of the way. This guide compares the 18-inch models in the current search results and on Amazon so you can match one to your kitchen and household.

Short answer

For most people, the Hamilton Beach portable dishwasher with wheels is the easiest starting point. It has 4.1 stars from 486 ratings on Amazon, the largest review base of the listings we checked, and its listing highlights wheels. Sudsspot may earn a commission if you buy through the Amazon links in this article, and the price you pay does not change.

If you want an ENERGY STAR label, the SPT SD-9263SS is the alternative. It also has 4.1 stars, from 282 ratings, and its listing states ENERGY STAR certification.

How we researched

We reviewed the current search results for portable 18-inch dishwashers, which include manufacturer and retailer pages, a Sam's Club owner review and a 2026 roundup. We also checked eight Amazon listings and used their star ratings and rating counts as shown on Amazon. Where a spec is not in those sources, we say so instead of filling the gap. This guide compares products using manufacturer specifications, current Amazon listings and owner reviews; we did not test them hands-on.

Buying criteria, in order of weight

1. Fit and mobility: the 18-inch width, and whether the unit rolls or stays put. A 2026 roundup describes an 18-inch model on wheels that fits tiny kitchens and can be moved to a pantry.
2. Owner feedback: the Amazon star rating and how many ratings sit behind it. A rating from 4 reviews tells you very little.
3. Cycles and programs: the number of wash programs and any sanitize cycle. One listing in the results describes six wash programs and an 8-place setting capacity.
4. Energy certification: ENERGY STAR, where the listing states it.
5. Price tier: every Amazon listing we checked falls in the over $300 tier, so price does not separate these picks.

How we chose

We ranked the options by the criteria above, in that order. The evidence came from manufacturer and retailer pages in the search results, Amazon star ratings and rating counts as listed, one Sam's Club owner review and one 2026 roundup. The owner review is a single account, so we treat it as an anecdote, not a pattern. None of the products were tested hands-on, and we will update this guide when listings or tiers change.

Hamilton Beach portable with wheels: best for moving it around

This model suits you if you want to roll the dishwasher to the sink or park it in a pantry when you are not using it. It has the strongest review base among the picks, at 4.1 stars from 486 ratings on Amazon. A separate Hamilton Beach 18-inch model in the results lists six cycles and model HBDW1809-SS-6COM in stainless steel, but the material does not confirm that it is the same unit as the wheeled Amazon listing, so check the model number before you buy.

The one owner account we found on Sam's Club describes the machine running hot enough to remove burnt cheese and enchilada sauce from glass pans without soaking. That is a single review of a Hamilton Beach 18-inch model, so read it as a sign of what some owners experience, not a guarantee.

Drawback: the Amazon listing excerpt does not give capacity or cycle count, so confirm those on the listing before you commit.

SPT SD-9263SS: best if ENERGY STAR matters

Choose this model if an ENERGY STAR certification is a priority. Its listing describes an 18-inch wide portable stainless steel unit with ENERGY STAR, and it has 4.1 stars from 282 ratings on Amazon. Owners who want a unit that stays put on a counter may prefer it to a wheeled model.

The SPT family shows how variants can differ. The SD-9263SSA has 3.4 stars from 47 ratings, while the SD-9263SSB has 4.1 stars from 58 ratings. The listing titles do not explain the gap, so compare the exact suffix before you buy.

Drawback: the excerpts do not list cycle count or capacity, so ask the seller or read the full listing.

SPT SD-9263SSC: a smaller review base

The SD-9263SSC also carries ENERGY STAR and has 4.1 stars on Amazon, but from only 39 ratings. Treat that score as an early signal, not a settled verdict. It fits buyers who want the same ENERGY STAR feature as the SD-9263SS and are comfortable with a smaller sample.

Drawback: with 39 ratings, one or two unhappy owners can move the average noticeably. Read the most recent reviews before you buy.

Other models to know about

A +DECKER 18-inch portable dishwasher in the results lists ENERGY STAR, an 8-place setting capacity and six wash programs with an LED display. That combination suits a household that cooks often and wants more capacity than a basic compact unit. The GE 18-inch stainless steel portable in the results lists a sanitize cycle, and its listing states a 3,600 RPM rotation figure. We did not include these two on the Amazon picks list because the Amazon listings we checked did not cover them.

One Hamilton Beach listing on Amazon has 2.6 stars from only 4 ratings. That is too few reviews to judge, so we left it out of the picks.

Who should skip a portable 18 inch dishwasher

Skip this category if you need more capacity than an 8-place setting, or if you want a fixed built-in unit with a permanent plumbing connection. If you are looking at countertop units rather than portable 18-inch models, see our top rated countertop dishwasher picks by price range.

How to choose

If you want to move the dishwasher between rooms or store it away, pick the Hamilton Beach model with wheels. If an ENERGY STAR label is your priority and you want a larger review base, pick the SPT SD-9263SS. If you accept a smaller sample for the same certification, the SD-9263SSC is the alternative. If you need a higher place-setting capacity, look at the +DECKER listing in the results and check its capacity against your household.

FAQ

Do I need a special faucet connection? Check the listing for how the unit connects to water. The excerpts we reviewed do not describe the connection method, so do not assume it fits your sink.

How do I know the capacity fits my household? Look for a stated place-setting count. The +DECKER listing states an 8-place setting capacity, but the Amazon excerpts for the picks do not give one.

Does ENERGY STAR mean it will clean better? Not necessarily. ENERGY STAR is an efficiency label, and the listings we checked do not show cleaning results. Use owner ratings and the review text to judge cleaning.

Conclusion

A portable 18 inch dishwasher makes sense when counter and cabinet space are tight. For most buyers, the Hamilton Beach model with wheels is the best starting point, the SPT SD-9263SS is the choice for ENERGY STAR, and the SD-9263SSC is a smaller-sample alternative. Check the capacity, the water connection and the exact model suffix before you buy.
