The good portable dishwasher: picks for small kitchens

A good portable dishwasher is usually a countertop unit that fits a small kitchen, apartment or RV without a plumber. You fill it by hand or connect it to a tap, and you can move it when you need the counter space back. This guide sorts the options by what you need to check first: size, water and drain setup, then price tier and Amazon ratings.

Short answer

For most small kitchens, EUHOMY or NOVETE is the better starting point because both sit in the $100–$300 tier. AIRMSEN has the highest Amazon rating in our data, 4.6 stars from 1600 ratings on Amazon, but it is in the over $300 tier. How we researched

We compared three Amazon-listed countertop models, one countertop model reviewed by Tech Advisor (Hava), and two roundups from search results (The Spruce and kenas). We also read one Reddit thread and one 2024 article on a countertop model. Specs come from the Tech Advisor review and the Amazon listings; ratings and sales counts are as shown on Amazon. This guide compares products using manufacturer specifications, current Amazon listings and owner reviews; we did not test them hands-on.

Buying criteria

In order of weight:

1. Fit: footprint, height and where the water tank lid sits. The Hava review gives a 43 cm square footprint and a 46 cm height, so check the space under your wall cabinets first.
2. Water and drain: these units fill from a tank or an inlet hose and empty into a drain or bucket. The Hava review describes a screw-on inlet hose for a tap, a drain hose, and a need for a nearby power point.
3. Weight: the Hava weighs 28.7 lb (13 kg), which the review calls heavy for something you move often.
4. Owner ratings and recent sales on Amazon.
5. Price tier.

How we chose

We put fit and water setup above star ratings, because a unit that does not fit your counter is useless whatever its rating. The evidence is mixed in strength. Specs come only from the Tech Advisor review and the listings. Expert views come from two roundups that name different top picks. Owner evidence is limited to Amazon rating counts and one Reddit post, which is an anecdote and not a pattern. Nothing here was tested hands-on, and we will update this guide when products or price tiers change.

Where the expert lists disagree

The Spruce's countertop roundup names the Hava as its best overall pick, with a Danby model as runner-up. Kenas's small portable roundup instead highlights two GE models, an 24-inch GPT225SSLSS as best overall and an 18-inch GPT145SSLSS. The excerpts do not say why the lists differ. One likely reason is that they use different categories: tank-fed countertop units versus small portable machines that roll where you need them. Check which category a roundup uses before you compare its picks with yours.

One r/BuyItForLife commenter says they owned a Bosch countertop model for years and called it a great machine. That is a single owner post, so treat it as an anecdote, not a pattern.

AIRMSEN Portable Countertop Dishwasher

Best for: buyers who want the highest-rated listing here and can spend over $300. The listing shows 4.6 stars from 1600 ratings on Amazon and 100+ bought in the past month. Drawback: it is the most expensive pick in this guide, and our Amazon data does not include its dimensions or capacity, so check the listing for size before you buy. EUHOMY Countertop Dishwasher Portable

Best for: small kitchens that want a mid-priced portable unit with strong recent sales. The listing shows 4.4 stars from 1000 ratings on Amazon and 900+ bought in the past month, in the $100–$300 tier. Drawback: it has fewer ratings than NOVETE, and our data does not list its capacity, so compare the listing's size details with your counter. EUHOMY Countertop Dishwasher Portable

NOVETE Portable Countertop Dishwashers for Small Apartments

Best for: one or two people in a small apartment. The listing is titled for small apartments, shows 4.4 stars from 2500 ratings on Amazon, and 300+ bought in the past month, in the $100–$300 tier. A 2024 article on a portable countertop dishwasher calls the Novete perfect for one or two people. Drawback: that fit suggests a family may outgrow it, and ratings do not tell you about long-term reliability. NOVETE Portable Countertop Dishwashers for Small Apartments

Comparison at a glance

How to choose

If you have a tap and a nearby power point, and you can handle a unit of about 13 kg, the Hava is the expert-favored reference. If you have a tight budget and one or two people, pick NOVETE. If you want a mid-priced unit with high recent sales, pick EUHOMY. If the rating matters most and the budget does not, pick AIRMSEN. Skip any tall unit if you cannot clear the height under your cabinets, and skip a small countertop model if your household needs to run large loads each day.

FAQ

What is the best dishwasher for everyday use?

It depends on household size. For one or two people in a small apartment, the NOVETE listing targets that situation. A household that runs large loads daily may outgrow a small countertop unit, so compare capacity before you buy.

Can you put a dishwasher directly under a sink?

Portable countertop units do not need to sit under a sink. The Hava review describes a hose that connects to a tap and a drain hose for wastewater. Check your sink, plumbing and cabinet clearance, and if you rent, check your lease and local rules before making changes.

Is there a small size dishwasher?

Yes. Kenas lists two small GE models, an 18-inch and a 24-inch unit, among its best small portable picks. The Hava is also compact at 43 cm square, though it is 46 cm tall.

Conclusion

The right good portable dishwasher depends on your space and water setup more than on star ratings. For small apartments and one or two people, NOVETE and EUHOMY are the most practical starting points in the $100–$300 tier. Measure your space, confirm the tap and drain setup, and read each listing's size details before you buy.
